The Story
The story of Zodle begins like most great stories. Once upon a… Tuesday, I think.
On this particular day a couple of Santa Barbarians (Yep, authentic barbarians.) had just finished stuffing their bellies with the most amazing tacos rajas in the universe. It was then, in one of those Thanksgiving-like moments when one is too full to move, that an idea was born.
Josh (“The Brains”) was eyeing the daily specials for later in the week displayed on a chalkboard when a thought occurred to him. Turning to Todd (“The Beauty”) he asked, “Have you ever thought about how much chalk is wasted every year writing things like daily specials and happy hours? We should do something about that.”
Never one to miss a chance to catch lightning in a bottle Todd replied, “Okay.”
Josh continued, “Instead of so much precious chalk being wasted by businesses trying to communicate with their customers wouldn’t it be easier to replace all of these medieval chalkboards with huge flat screen TVs? They would be like
indoor billboards
. We could use the internet to broadcast location based content all over the community. Even better, it would give local merchants a way to cross promote one another while
maximizing visibility
with local consumers. Advertisers could buy ads that would be circulated in front of captive audiences all over town.”
Todd again replied, “Cool.”
Sensing the dawning of a brilliant concept Josh went on, “We could build a company
obsessed with customer service
. Their priorities would be our priorities. We would commit to providing the most
simple and intuitive technology
making it easy for merchants to broadcast their message and
target local demographics
. Finally, we would be
locally driven.
We won’t be one of those companies making decisions in a board room thousands of miles away. We’ll be
involved in the communities
where we have digital signs. We’ll get to know what suits each marketplace. We’ll listen to local merchants and adapt rather than force feeding them useless technology.”
Beginning to grasp the vision being laid out before him, Todd exclaimed, “Neat!”
Arising to a standing position Josh declared, “We will call ourselves ‘Zodle’. I have always wanted to go to Switzerland and learn to yodel so we’re going to roll with it. And we will take our vision into all the land. We will become a federation of unique local communities each with their own flavor and identity. Our tireless quest will be to
help local business prosper
wherever we go. Are you with me?!”
Rising to join his friend Todd too declared, “Sure.”
And so it was, out of an earnest desire by one man to preserve a natural resource (Remember the chalk?) a company named Zodle was born. And the rest is history.
Tune in next week for “The Story Part II: The Magic Programming Gnome.”
